Please note that although you can purchase an Electric (e)-Scooters it is in fact ILLEGAL to use them on public roads, pavements, in cycle lanes and in pedestrian only area.

Electric scooters are currently classed as ‘powered transporters’ by the government and fall under the same laws and regulations that apply to all 'motor vehicles'. Therefore you require a driving licence, registration, insurance and road tax. However these cannot be obtained because they do not meet the Construction and Use Regulations regarding safety.

You would NOT need to insurance an Electric Scooter on PRIVATE land BUT you do need the land owners permission.

You need a full or provisional licence with category “q” to ride an E-scooter on the road. You would NOT need a driving licence to ride an E-Scooter on private land.

If riders are seen and stopped by Police on E-Scooters they are liable of having it seized and reported for various driving/traffic offences.
